By Florante Rosales
The much-anticipated “Diamond Route” for shipping in the MIMAROPA region is finally taking shape. Marinduque Governor Mel Go met with Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri to discuss the project, which aims to establish a modern and efficient sea route connecting the islands of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.
Governor Go, who chairs the Regional Development Council’s Infrastructure Committee, expressed confidence that the project will boost business and tourism in the region. The plan is to upgrade the vessels serving the route to make them more modern and capable of navigating rough seas.
Several shipping lines have already expressed interest in the project, which has garnered support from President Bongbong Marcos Jr. Senator Zubiri pledged his assistance in developing the region’s transportation, agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure.
The Diamond Route is expected to improve the lives of locals and stimulate economic growth in the region. Governor Go invited Senator Zubiri to visit Marinduque, while Zubiri extended an invitation for the governor to attend the Senate’s opening session on January 26.
